hard.times is Matt Aasen (guitar), Rob Elo (keyboards), Steven Taddei (bass), and Jesse McNeill (Drums); musicians with a serious passion for rhythm. With backgrounds in jazz (Harvey Paris Quintet), Pop (Lovecoast), Soul/RnB (Lingo, Pocket Change) and progressive metal (The Body Politic), they seek to meld the aforementioned genres with the vibe of R&B and soul music in the hopes of creating a sound that is truly unique.
The band’s 2019 EP, Portland, is a foray into the primarily only electronically generated sound of quintuplet swing. While much of the music in the genre of experimental jazz fusion can alienate
audiences with free-time or atonal harmony, the goal of hard.times is to create music that is pleasing to listen to; rhythmically complex and experimental, but presented with familiar chords and a tight groove that the listener can understand and enjoy.
hard.times has just released the first video in a series of four live-off-the floor recordings of songs from their debut album. These releases will be bolstered by a rigorous, four month-long social media campaign to help the band expand their audience and garner a dedicated fan base.
